SDBJ’s Most Admired CEO program recognizes industry leaders who excel in guiding their organizations to great success along with creating a vibrant and productive environment for their staffs. Voting consisted of both in-house judges and an outside panel of executives from the business community.

“I am honored to receive this award and I thank all of my peers in the community who bestowed this recognition on me,” Cherashore said. “I am humbled and blessed to carry the torch for all of our 1,200 employees, who every day work tirelessly to ensure the utmost satisfaction of our guests. These employees are like family to me and this award is a reflection of their hard work and dedication.”

Evans Hotels, founded by Cherashore’s father William D. Evans in 1953, owns and operates The Lodge at Torrey Pines, Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa, and Bahia Resort Hotel. Cherashore joined the company in 1984 as Chief Financial Officer. She became President/CEO in 1992.

In addition to her role as President/CEO, Cherashore serves as a board member for the California Chamber of Commerce and recently completed her term as the Chairman of the Los Angeles Branch Board of Directors for Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Previously, she served on the boards of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, San Diego State University School of Business, and the UCSD Economics Roundtable. She also served as a Director and Executive Committee Member of the San Diego Consortium and Private Industry Council (now the San Diego Workforce Partnership).

Cherashore, who is fluent in Spanish, was honored by SDBJ at its 12th-Annual Women Who Mean Business Awards in 2005. She holds a B.A. in English from the University of Colorado and an M.B.A. in Business from Dartmouth College.

“Being a woman, Mrs. Cherashore has really inspired me throughout my career – not just professionally, but personally,” said Adela Sanchez, who has worked for Evans Hotels for 25 years. “Her family values go beyond what you would expect of a person in her position. She not only cares about my success as an employee, but about the success of my family as well. What sets Mrs. Cherashore apart is her ability to connect with people. She sees employees as collaborators, recognizing their contributions big and small. This not only motivates me to give 100% day in and day out, it also makes her a pleasure to work with.”

More than half the workforce has been employed with Evans Hotels for over five years, almost 30% more than 10 years, and almost 10% over 20 years.
